Mia Habel - Registered Psychologist

Mia Habel

Mia is a warm and insightful registered psychologist with a passion for supporting adults, adolescents, children, and parents. She works collaboratively with clients to facilitate meaningful change in their lives. Taking a warm and playful approach with her clients, she warms everyone with a genuine interest in listening and supporting.

Adults and Adolescents:
Mia believes that individuals are the experts in their own lives, and partners with them to discover solutions that feel authentic and effective. She fosters a safe and nurturing environment where each person’s unique experiences are respected and explored. Guided by a joyful and compassionate approach, Mia often draws of Acceptance Commitment Therapy to help clients connect with their values and move toward more meaningful, fulfilling lives. She is grounded in evidence-based practice and provides tailored support across a range of mental health concerns, with a particular interest in the treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety-related disorders. Her approach is flexible, person-centred, and focused on fostering lasting, positive change.

Children:
Mia welcomes the involvement of parents. With client permission, she communicates with schools and other professional providers. She aims to build long-term individual growth by communication of the strategies that are chosen to work well for the child. This means that the positive strategies that she takes with the client can be strengthened and reinforced within the child or adolescent’s environment.

Parenting:
Mia has an interest in perinatal mental health, supporting parents through the emotional transitions that accompany conception, pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. She offers a warm, supportive space for parents experiencing perinatal anxiety, depression, or adjustment difficulties, helping them feel understood and supported as they navigate the challenges of early parenthood. Mia draws on the attachment-based program, Circle of Security Parenting Program, to support reflection and provide support for parents and caregivers.

Assessment:
Mia has an interest in educational assessment which assist in
 identifying learning disorders,
 intellectual disabilities,
 giftedness and other neurodevelopmental differences.
Her reports take a holistic view of the individual, providing recommendations for support in the school and home environment.  She undertakes ADHD assessment and can follow up the assessment to a parent coaching program, that will enable the parents to best manage their children’s behaviour and learning.

In her personal life, Mia is an enthusiastic plant-parent who lovingly grows and propagates her own “plant babies”, which are often proudly displayed around her office in decorative pots, adding a touch of nature to the therapeutic space.

We understand that journeys are travelled better together. No issue is too big or too small. Whether it’s a series of sessions to deal with a complex problem or a single session to address a specific concern, we’re here to listen and help.
