Gender Affirming Therapy via Telehealth
At Rose Park Psychology, we offer gender affirming, trauma-informed therapy via telehealth for transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse individuals of all ages. Whether you’re exploring your gender identity, navigating transition, or seeking support for mental health or life challenges, our approach centres your experience and honours your self-determination. When working together, we’ll always use the language that feels most accurate and empowering to you.
What is Gender Dysphoria?
Gender dysphoria refers to the distress that can arise when there’s a mismatch between your gender identity and the gender you were assigned at birth. This may relate to discomfort with your body, how others perceive or treat you, or internal conflict about gendered roles and expectations.

Not everyone who is gender diverse experiences dysphoria, and not all distress about gender looks the same. For those who do experience it, it can be deeply impactful, affecting emotional wellbeing, relationships, and daily functioning.
Common experiences of gender dysphoria may include:
- Discomfort with body parts, particularly those related to puberty
- Distress when misgendered or referred to by the wrong name
- Feeling disconnected from societal gender roles or language
- A strong desire to be seen and recognised as your true gender
- Mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, or low self-worth
- A longing to socially, medically, or legally transition
Therapy can help you understand and navigate these experiences in a safe, affirming space that validates your identity and supports your journey, wherever you are on it.
How We Support You
Therapy is tailored to your goals and identity, and may include:
- Exploring gender identity, expression, and roles
- Coping with dysphoria-related distress
- Navigating social aspects of transition
- Working through trauma, anxiety, or depression
- Building self-compassion, resilience, and connection
- Supporting the important people in your life to understand and affirm you
We also work with parents and caregivers seeking support around a child’s gender identity, and welcome people at any stage of exploration, including those who are unsure whether the term “gender dysphoria” fits their experience.
Affirmative therapy isn’t a single method. It’s a way of practicing that respects and validates your identity. We integrate a range of modalities, including narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and relational and systems-based work. All of these modalities are adapted to be inclusive and respectful.
Neurodivergence and Gender Diversity
Many neurodivergent people identify as gender diverse. This overlap is increasingly recognised and reflects shared experiences, such as:
- Less attachment to rigid social norms
- Deep self-reflection about identity and authenticity
- Differences in communication and sensory processing
- Marginalisation and misunderstanding by systems or institutions
We also provide affirming support for neurodivergent clients navigating gender identity. Therapy may involve:
- Exploring identity in ways that suit your communication style
- Supporting executive functioning and decision-making
- Building tools to navigate healthcare, education, or social systems
- Processing trauma or misdiagnosis
- Validating non-traditional or nonlinear gender experiences
We welcome neurodivergent and disabled clients, and use an intersectional lens that acknowledges how racism, ableism, classism, and other systems of oppression impact identity and mental health.
